This is a hat inspired by one of the 1890's millinery trends: a high vertical ribbon trimming that were frequently seen on boaters or other similarly shaped fabric hats. The wired, adjustable velvet ribbon has been attached to the crown-hugging ribbon which can be carefully pulled around to change the placement of the whole ensemble. I have sewn contrasting paper flowers in front of the bow tie for a delicate, eye-catching effect.
It is handmade in my sewing studio, using both machine and hand sewing. The construction of the hat is a result of a long iteration.
The shape of the hat is slightly oval, and there is an elastic band and two combs to help you secure the hat on your head so you can feel confident to face the world!
